My husband and I are currently working very hard towards paying off our house and being free of all debt. It is an amazing feeling knowing we could possibly be completely free of debt by the end of the year, but it doesn't come without its sacrifices. Oh Boy! We have to be so frugal. One of the areas of our budget we have to be especially careful is groceries. I am on a cash-only budget and if I run out of my grocery money, that's it, I have to make things work till the next month. Thanks to a friend in our small group we learned of a ministry that has helped us out a whole lot in staying in budget each month. It is the Angel Food Ministries. Has anyone else heard of them?? It is a ministry that works through area churches to provide groceries for people who choose to use them. There are no income requirements and it is not need-based.
Here is how it works. Each month you can go to the website (link above) and look at the menu for that month and pick out what you want. There is a basic box and all the items in that box are listed and then there are optional boxes you can also buy. The optional boxes are usually some sort of meat. The basic box is usually $25 and each optional boxes range around $18. Chris, Caleb, and I will get the basic box (required if you want one of the optional boxes) and one meat box. If we add some extra veggies, milk, and such we are well fed for a month. I am sure there will be a time when we need more but for now the Angel Food Ministries Works for Me.
Go to the website and see if there is a church in your area that is an Angel Food host and check them out!

I can speak for Angel Food Ministries. We have used them more than once, and have had really good experiences with not only the food, but the Church members serving us in conjunction with the AFM. It has allowed us to stretch our dollars, and to enjoy some different items we might not have tried otherwise. There have been some very happy discoveries made in those boxes!
I highly recommend AFM to everyone.
I am so glad you posted about this! We buy Angel Food Ministries about every month and I considered it being my WFMW this week. Great suggestion and I hope many people look into it!
Yep. I like AFM as well. We didn't get any this month, but it's on our budget for next month. Another budget saver is Aldi's. If you have one close by, you should check it out.
Hugs,
Melinda
I posted about this a few months ago - we really like Angel Food Ministries. There's also a program called SHARE in parts of the US that seems really good, and then Lubbock, Texas has a fabulous program that looks like the best - I'm hoping they can roll that one out state-wide soon.
Thanks for a great tip!
Thanks for spreading the word! I volunteer in this ministry at my church.
I just posted about 30 recipes for the October Angel Food Ministries Box and close to 50 for the November Box.
