Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt

Theme: Shadow(s)

I took this picture during our trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau. It is right inside the main gate (see left) which is casting the shadow. I was touched by the flowers left on the cart (see right). You can see how the train would pull in right here and then the people would be "selected" further down the way and they would either go to the right to work or to the left to go straight to the gas chambers and crematorium. So much evil was done here and that will forever cast a shadow on the beautiful country of Poland.

Sigh... I'd be in tears if I were there. I don't know if I can take photos of such evil.

But your last statement said it all.

Lovely photos of such a horrible place. Very powerful and moving. My human dad has been to Auschwitz, and both of my humans have visited Dachau, close to Munich. Such dreadful, sad places, but so important that we never forget.

My shadow.
